About the Speaker: Kazem Adio
Kazem Adio is an educator that focuses on practical ways to strengthen children’s spiritual, moral and emotional (holistic) well-being. Through his work at Stewards.ONE, Kazem help young learners (year 10 – 16) to learn and implement daily litanies that strengthen their minds and safeguard their Iman.

This competition offers a unique opportunity for reciters to showcase their mastery of the Holy Qur’an through beautiful recitations, evaluated on clarity, fluency, and overall delivery.

Eligibility:

Open to all students and community members. Every child who wants to participate must register.
Participants are required to register in the category that fits their appropriate level according to the maximum amount of Quran they have memorised.

Requirements:

Participants are hereby encouraged to avoid cheating from the web or Quran, as this is a test of how much they’ve memorised.
Participants are also advised to have a very good audio-visual and likewise stable internet connection in a quiet environment.

Judging Criteria: Participants will be evaluated based on pronunciation, rhythm, fluency, and overall delivery.

The Judges:

Abdul Aziz Abdul Hamid: Abdul Aziz Abdul Hamid memorised the Holy Quran from Hufaadh Mahd, Osogbo, around 2010. He’s also a first-class graduate at King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from the faculty of arts and humanities in Islamic law. He has been a teacher of the Quran at various levels and spent a year at Al-Medinah International College, Osogbo, Osun State, as a Quran teacher between 2017 and 2018. He also worked as a teacher at Daarul Uloom, Minnesota, United States, as a remote Quran teacher for a couple of years. His unique blend of expertise is teaching both in person and virtually, and he has mentored students from different backgrounds in both Arabic and Quran memorisation for years.
Ashraf Akintola: Ashraf Akintola memorised the Quran at age 17 in Ibadan. He’s vast at teaching people (kids and adults) how to memorise and recite the Quran fluently; his experience led to the commencement of Darul Ashraf online Arabic and Islamic school, where they tutor young Muslims on how to recite and memorise the Holy Quran. He’s a postdoctoral researcher at Kyungpook National University, South Korea (Bioinformatics).
Ahmad Abdul-Majeed: Ahmad Abdul-Majeed has a Diploma in Arabic from King Abdul Aziz University in Saudi Arabia and is currently an undergraduate student studying Physics at the same university. A Hafiz of the Hifs Qira’a, Ahmad memorised Al Quran at Inaayatullah International Academy, Iwo, Osun State, Nigeria. (2012-2016). He has been teaching the Quran to children for over 5 years and is dedicated to seeing young ones achieve their goals of memorising the Quran.

About Ustadh Muhammad Ali:

Ustadh Muhammad Ali is a graduate of the African American Islamic Institute located in Medina Baye, Kaolack, Senegal, founded by the Islamic scholar Shaykh Imam Hassan Cisse. Originally from Brooklyn, NY, he first attended the prestigious Howard University in Washington, D.C., where he studied Fine Arts and Philosophy.

After a year of study, he decided to travel abroad to pursue Islamic knowledge. In 2012, he began his journey and spent the last 12 years studying Arabic and Islamic sciences under the tutelage of Shaykh Muhammad Mahy Cisse and various Shinqiti and Azhari scholars.

He successfully completed the rigorous program, earning diplomas in both Classical Arabic and Islamic Studies. In 2018, Shaykh Muhammad Mahy Cisse authorized him to teach Islamic Jurisprudence and Classical Arabic. Since then, Shaykh Muhammad Ali has been balancing his studies and teaching, making significant contributions to Islamic education during his downtime.

About Shaykh Jubril Alao

Jubril Alao has been teaching and developing Arabic curricula for over fifteen years. Jubril studied Economics at UCL completing a Masters degree in Computer Science before joining the Ibn Jabal Arabic Language Institute as a student progressing to a Senior Teacher. He studied Arabic Literature and Poetry at the University of Damascus and continued his studies with Shaykh Ahmed Babikir and Shaykh Ahmed Pirzada under whom he studied the fiqh of the Five Pillars (Hanafi and Maliki Fiqh), Tafsir, Diseases of the Heart and works of Imam al-Ghazali⁠.

Shaykh Rakin Niass Fetuga is an islamic community leader, relationship coach, educator, and author. With a degree in Sociology and a postgraduate certificate in Social Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties, he has over 30 years of personal experience in marriage. As a certified coach, he uses solution-focused techniques to help couples prepare for marriage and manage challenges. He is the author of “Getting Ready for Love”, a guide for muslims planning to marry or looking to strengthen their relationships.

Rakin is the CEO of Sunlight Life Coaching. He set this company up to facilitate support for Muslim couples who were finding challenges in their relationships. He is also an Islamic teacher with more than 20 years experience – teaching courses on Seerah, Tassawuf, love of the Prophet ﷺ and fundamentals of the deen.

About Dr. Zakariya Wright:
Zakariya Wright received his PhD (history) from Northwestern University, his MA in Arabic studies/Middle East history from the American University in Cairo, and his BA in history from Stanford University. He teaches classes on Islam in Africa, Islamic Intellectual History, African history, and Middle East history. His research focuses on Islamic intellectual history in West and North Africa, from the 15th century to the present. Most of Wright’s field research has been conducted in Senegal, Morocco, and Mauritania, with Arabic, French, and Wolof language sources. He serves as a faculty affiliate of Northwestern’s Program of African Studies (PAS), Institute for the Study of Islamic Thought in Africa (ISITA), and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) program. Wright became Muslim in 1997 in Medina-Baye, Senegal, and spent many years studying the traditional Islamic sciences with Shaykh Hasan Cisse and Shaykh Tijani Cisse along his academic research.
