Stewards.ONE is delighted to announce the introduction of our new IGCSE Art & Design pathway.

This new subject has been developed for students who want to grow artistically, think visually, build a serious creative portfolio, and explore how design, beauty, meaning and communication come together.

At Stewards.ONE, Art & Design is not treated as a decorative extra. It is a powerful subject that develops observation, patience, creativity, technical discipline, visual analysis and personal expression. It also connects naturally with our wider ABC model: Academics, Business and Character.

Why IGCSE Art & Design?

Many students are naturally creative, but creativity needs structure. The IGCSE Art & Design pathway gives students the opportunity to develop their ideas through research, experimentation, refinement and final outcomes.

Students will learn how to observe carefully, respond to artists and designers, explore materials, document their process and communicate meaning through visual work. The subject encourages both imagination and discipline — helping students move from simple interest to serious creative development.

What students will develop

  • Observational skill: learning to look carefully, notice detail and represent form with greater confidence.
  • Creative thinking: developing original ideas in response to themes, artists, cultures and real-world design needs.
  • Technical control: improving use of media, materials, composition, colour, texture and visual structure.
  • Portfolio development: building a body of work that shows research, experimentation, refinement and personal direction.
  • Visual communication: learning how images, patterns, forms and design choices communicate meaning.
  • Reflective practice: reviewing work honestly, improving through feedback and learning to explain artistic decisions clearly.

A subject that fits the Stewards.ONE vision

Art & Design sits beautifully within the Stewards.ONE formation model.

It strengthens the Head by developing analysis, research, planning and visual reasoning. It strengthens the Hand by requiring practical skill, craftsmanship, experimentation and production. It strengthens the Heart by cultivating patience, sincerity, beauty, discipline and meaningful expression.

For students interested in creative industries, architecture, design, media, fashion, illustration, digital content, product design or visual storytelling, this subject can become an important foundation. It also benefits students who simply want to become more observant, expressive and disciplined in the way they create.

Who is it for?

This pathway is suitable for students who enjoy drawing, design, visual research, pattern, colour, digital creativity, textiles, craft, photography or creative problem-solving. Students do not need to be “perfect artists” before starting. What matters most is willingness to practise, improve, receive feedback and build a thoughtful portfolio over time.

Applications and subject selection

Families interested in adding IGCSE Art & Design to their child’s programme are encouraged to contact the school or discuss it during their enrolment conversation.

Places may be limited because portfolio-based subjects require careful feedback and close teacher guidance.

We are excited to open this pathway for students who want to create with excellence, think with depth and use beauty as a form of meaningful communication
